Towards the end of her reign, the French Queen Marie Antoinette had become the supposed menace of France. It has been suggested that the false promotion of her character by the gutter press led to Antoinette’s beheading and in this painting I have chosen to depict Antoinette as a giddy, fun-loving demon, just like the press saw her.
